Two state-run breweries (Barada in Damascus, and al-Sharq in Aleppo) had to close when civil war broke out in Syria. Now a new one, Aradoz Beer Factory started production in coastal city of Safita with an initial yearly capacity of 150,000 hl. Owners are two Syrian expats living in the Czech Republic, who invested about $16 million in mainly Czech equipment.
