AB InBev has appointed Dirk Van de Put as the new chairman of its board of directors, effective June 16, 2026.
The dual Belgian-American citizen, who has served as an independent director on the board of the world's largest brewer since April 2023, succeeds Martin J. Barrington. Barrington retired following the company's annual shareholders' meeting in April. Van de Put will continue to hold his position as chief executive officer and chairman of Mondelez International, a role he has held since 2017.
Prior to his current role, Van de Put served as president and chief executive officer of McCain Foods. He joined the Canadian frozen-foods group as chief operating officer in 2010, ascending to the CEO role in 2011. His career in the food, beverage, and consumer packaged goods industries spans over 30 years and includes senior executive positions at Coca-Cola, Mars, Danone, and Novartis.
"We are delighted to have Dirk Van de Put as our new chairman. He brings a wealth of expertise and a distinguished record of leadership that will be invaluable as we continue to grow and create a future with more cheers," said AB InBev CEO Michel Doukeris. Doukeris, who assumed his role in July 2021 (inside.beer, 6.5.2021), noted that the company remains focused on creating long-term value for stakeholders.
Van de Put commented on his new position: "Having spent the past three years on the AB InBev board, I am supportive of the company's strategy and ten-year plan. I have been impressed by the company's talented management team, led by CEO Michel Doukeris, and I look forward to helping AB InBev write the next chapter in brewing history."
