Belize: Power outage disrupts Belikin beer bottling

A significant power outage on May 5, 2025, has disrupted the bottling operations of Bowen & Bowen, the exclusive producer of Belikin beer in Belize. The blackout, caused by a generation emergency in Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, led to equipment failures in the company's Ladyville facility, particularly affecting the production line responsible for glass-bottled Belikin beer and stout.

Despite having backup generators, the sudden and severe nature of the outage overwhelmed the system, leading to a temporary halt in bottling operations. As a result, businesses across Belize are experiencing shortages of bottled Belikin products. However, the production and distribution of canned beer remain unaffected, and the company is increasing canned beer output to mitigate the shortage.

In response to the disruption, Bowen & Bowen has also adjusted handling fees for their products in Caye Caulker and San Pedro Town, citing increased logistical challenges and costs associated with delivering to these areas. The company assures customers that these adjustments are minimal and aimed at maintaining consistent product pricing across the country.

Efforts are underway to repair the damaged equipment and restore full bottling operations. In the meantime, consumers are encouraged to opt for canned Belikinproducts, which continue to be readily available.
