China: KHS to build new EUR 10 million plant

KHS, one of the leading manufacturers of filling and packaging equipment, is building a new factory and service center in Kunshan, a county-level city in the southeastern Jiangsu province bordering Shanghai and Suzhou in China. The German company plans to invest about ten million euros to build a plant with a size of about 10,000 square meters.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Deputy Mayor, Party Secretary and Chairman of Zhangpu as well as Martin Resch, Chief Financial Officer KHS; Thomas Karell, Managing Director KHS Corpoplast; and William Wu, CEO KHS China. Resch said during the groundbreaking ceremony that the factory project in Kunshan is a clear commitment of the company to China and its Chinese customers.

"Kunshan with its skilled workers, its well-developed infrastructure and its extensive logistics network is an attractive city for such a project, "said Resch.  "We are now able to produce a larger product portfolio including blow moulders, fillers and labelers as single machines as well as in block versions, thereby increasing our expertise in handling complete line projects, "explained Resch. "With this product range KHS asserts its position as one of the world market leaders and pioneer in the bottling and packaging industry. In addition, this also says a lot about the innovation power of our team in China. "

KHS has been operating in the Chinese market since 1904.

In 2006, KHS bought a majority share in the Chinese joint venture Guangdong Light Industry Machinery No. 2 Plant Co. (GLM2), a filling technology provider for the beer industry, which was sold again in 2012 because the joint venture had been unable to achieve KHS' set goals regarding profitability and growth in sales "in spite of considerable efforts, and combining considerable management resources.”

KHS opened in 2008 an office in China’s capital Beijing. In 2012 the company founded Corpoplast Beverage Equipment (Suzhou) Co (CBE) located in Suzhou near Shanghai in the Chinese province of Jiangsu. CBE's production building, covering an area of 5,000 square meters and designed for assembling  machines for bottling still water in PET bottles, was inaugurated in June 2012. In 2014, KHS opened its new headquarter in Shanghai.

With the new plant and service center in Kunshan, KHS wants now to respond even faster to the local markets in China and South-East Asia.

Next to its German plants in Bad Kreuznach, Dortmund, Hamburg, Kleve and Worms, KHS operates production sites in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Waukesha WI and Sarasota FL, USA; Zinacantepec, Mexico; Ahmedabad, India; and Suzhou, China.
