Czech Republic: Soft Drink Maker Kofola Faces Flooding at Krnov Plant

Czech soft drinks producer Kofola CeskoSlovensko is dealing with flooding at its Krnov production facility following major floods that hit the region last week, the company reported on Monday.

Kofola is currently pumping water out of the plant but stated that it is too early to assess the full extent of the damage. The company expects to have a clearer understanding of the duration of the outage by early next week.

Despite the flooding, Kofola assured that it can continue to meet demand for most of its products by utilizing its other production facilities.

Kofola, which rose to prominence in the 1960s with its caffeinated drink created as a Communist-era alternative to Coca-Cola, raised funds in a 2015 IPO. The company has since expanded its product range to include other carbonated beverages, bottled water, juices, and beer, with production sites in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Croatia.

In November 2023, Kofola to enter the beer business by acquiring a majority stake in Czech’s fifth-largest brewing group Pivovary CZ Group. Pivovary CZ Group has an annual production exceeding 800.000 hl, of which more than a third of the beer is destined for export markets. (inside.beer, 22.11.2023)
