Germany: Adidas sells "durable puke and beer repellent" Oktoberfest sneakers

Only two weeks before  the official opening of Munich’s Oktoberfest, German sports apparel manufacturer Adidas has released a limited edition of sneakers especially designed for the world’s largest beer festival. The Adidas Originals München 'Oktoberfest' has bright embroidery on the heel cap to match the Bavarian leather pants,  inner lining with red/white micro-check tablecloth for that special alpine flavor and the golden Prost (German for Cheers) lettering next to the three stripes.

A special feature is the material of the shoe, which is "made from the finest leather with DPBR coating." DPBR stands for "durable puke and beer repellent", which is a very important property as is known by people familiar with beer festivals.

To put it in Adidas’ own words: "To withstand the rigors of the 'Oktoberfest,' the shoe will come with a water-repellent—and most importantly, a beer-repellent—treatment. With this Oktoberfesterization the sneaker will survive every beer shower."

The shoes go on sale on September 2  for nearly 200€ (about $238) per pair. An additional Rastal Isar beer mug is already included in the price.

It is not secured that Kasper Rørsted, who became CEO of Adidas last October, has secured for himself the first pair of the new Oktoberfest sneakers to watch Munich’s mayor on September 16, when he hits the first barrel at 12 p.m. and shouts out loud “O’zapft is!” (It's tapped!).
