Operations at Bergbräu in Uslar will conclude permanently following the company's decision to enter liquidation. Managing partner Andreas Papp and his deputy Thomas Koch confirmed to the 15-member workforce on July 29, 2026, that all brewing activities will cease by September 30, 2026. The company, which produced approximately 8,000 hl of its own Bergbräu beer alongside some contract brewing volumes, will wind down its business affairs by October 1, 2026. This news concerning the liquidation of Bergbräu follows just days after the insolvency filing of Gräflich zu Stolberg'sche Brauerei Westheim, which is located only about 70 km to the southwest.
The closure signals the end of a long-term turnaround attempt. Andreas Papp and his brothers acquired the brewery in 2013, eventually facing a critical strategic decision in 2020: either cease operations or commit to significant capital expenditure. Opting for the latter, the owners invested nearly EUR 2 million to replace the existing 120 hl brewhouse with a modern, more efficient 40 hl system and a refurbished filling line, aiming for a total capacity of 20,000 hl (inside-getraenke, 10.02.2022). Despite this modernization, the brewery could not sustain its business model against mounting economic pressures and shifting market conditions.
