Germany: European Beer Star sets new records

The European Beer Star, one of the most challenging competitions for the brewing industry worldwide has taken place this year for the 16th time with a new record high in competing beers. 2,483 beers, 139 more (+5.9%) than the previous year, were submitted in 67 (+2) categories. Breweries from 47 countries (-4) from every continent participated.

"We have been able to significantly increase the number of participants every year since 2004," emphasises Stefan Stang, Managing Director of Private Brauereien Bayern, the man behind the creation of this competition.

The beers were judged on the 10th and 11th of October by 145 experts (+1) from 28 countries. Tasting took place as every year under guidance of Doemens Brewing Academy in Gräfelfing near Munich. The best beers in every category were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.

Among all gold medal winners, the visitors of BrauBeviale 2019, this year’s most important capital goods exhibition for the beverage industry, will have the chance to choose their favourite beer next Tuesday on the day of opening of the fair in Nuremberg, Germany. The winner will receive the Consumers’ Favourite 2019 award of the best beer of the show.

The winners of all gold, silver and bronze awards in all 67 beer categories will be announced in a ceremony at BrauBeviale in Nuremberg on the 13th of November.
