As of July 1, 2019, Herman Nicolaas (Nico) Nusmeier, former President Heineken Central and Eastern Europe, will assume the role as CEO of Schörghuber Group, parent company of Paulaner Brewery Group, the seventh largest brewing group in Germany. The 57-year old manager succeeds Dr. Klaus N. Naeve, who served the Schörghuber group for 24 years in various board and management functions, last since 1 January 2009 as CEO of the whole group as the first non-family manager ever after the sudden death of owner Stefan Schörghuber aged 47.
Nusmeier is an internationally experienced manager. Born in 1961, he began his professional career in 1985 as a trainee at Heineken. Nusmeier subsequently took on a number of different management tasks for Heineken, which ultimately took him to Austria via Germany, Italy, the Bahamas and Poland. From 2005 until 2012 he was based in Vienna, Austria, and served as President Heineken Central and Eastern Europe. After leaving the Dutch family-owned company, he worked first as CEO of the Coca-Cola bottler Aujan in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and from 2016 as CEO of the packaging manufacturer Can-Pack in Krakow, Poland. The fivefold father, economist with a focus on econometrics and holder of a master’s degree in strategy and leadership from the renowned London Business School, speaks six languages, including fluent German.
With the appointment of Nico Nusmeier to the position of Chairman of the Executive Board, the new formation of the Executive Board of the Schörghuber Group is complete. Next to Nico Nusmeier as CEO, the board will consist of Dr. Hermann Brandstetter as CFO and of Alexandra Schörghuber, widow of Stefan Schörghuber, as Deputy Chairwoman and member of the Executive Board without a division of her own.
The family-owned Schörghuber Group, founded in 1954 and headquartered in Munich, operates in the four sectors construction & real estate, beer & beverages, hotel and seafood, and employs about 5,200 employees both nationally and internationally.
Bayerische Hausbau, which combines the real estate and property development activities of Schörghuber, holds a portfolio worth around EUR 2.7 billion in 2017 and is one of the largest real estate companies in Germany.
The Paulaner Brewery Group, a joint venture with Heineken in which the Dutch brewer holds a 30 percent stake (inside.beer, 10.2.2017), has a production of about 6 million hectoliters of beer and beverages and is one of the largest brewing groups in Germany with a focus in the south of the country with brands such as Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, Mönchshof and Fürstenberg. The brewing division experienced some problems after the brewing operations of Paulaner were relocated from the traditional 375 year old Nockherberg site in the center of Munich to an industrial location in Langwied on the outskirts of the city in September 2015. As a consequence, Schörghuber exchanged the management. In February 2018, Dr. Stefan Lustig, Chief Technology Officer of Paulaner Brewery Group (inside.beer, 8.2.2018) left the company. Two months later also CEO Roland Tobias had to go (inside.beer, 26.4.2018). Effective as of 1 September 2018, Dr. Jörg Lehmann took over both roles (inside.beer, 16.8.2018). In line with other German brewing groups the Paulaner Group sold last year more beer. The Paulaner brand alone could gain 7.1 percent in sales and sold last year more than 2.5 million hl of beer and mixed beer beverages (inside.beer, 1.3.2019).
The hotel division is the third business sector of Schörghuber. Arabella Hospitality operates 14 hotels in Germany, Switzerland and Mallorca. The hotels are managed by Marriott International.
The seafood division with salmon farming and processing in Chile named Productos del Mar Ventisqueros, is the fourth and smallest business unit of Schörghuber.
