Germany: Krones Announces Closure of Kelkheim Plant

The Krones Group has decided to cease its active involvement in the digital decoration of bottles and containers. Despite the successful performance of its subsidiary, Dekron GmbH, in serving market customers, this determination follows a comprehensive review of the business strategy and prevailing market conditions. In November, Dekron communicated this decision to its employees, as well as to customers, suppliers, and business partners. Starting in 2024, the seasoned service team of Krones AG will assume full responsibility for the maintenance of existing facilities.

Dekron GmbH was formed in 2018 by purchasing the remaining 49% of the shares that it did not already own of Till GmbH, a German company based in Kelkheim near Frankfurt/Main and consolidating Krones' in-house development activities. (inside.beer, 15.5.2018)

Since its inception, Dekron GmbH has been at the forefront of developing and manufacturing the DecoType machine series for digitally decorating glass, PET, and HDPE containers. The corresponding UV ink was supplied by KIC Krones, a subsidiary of Krones.

With the cessation of business activities, Dekron GmbH will be dissolved by December 31, 2023, leading to the closure of the Kelkheim location. An agreement on interests has already been negotiated with all employees.
