Germany: Local malthouse files for bankruptcy

Just one year before its 150th anniversary, the family owned 15,000 t malting Mälzerei Günther Schubert GmbH & Co KG from Schweinfurt/Franconia has filed for bankruptcy.Due to impending insolvency and over-indebtedness, insolvency proceedings were opened at the district court of Schweinfurt, Germany, on July 15, 2022. According to reports, self-administration was ordered. An examination date in the courtrooms is scheduled for Monday afternoon, September 5th, 2022.

At the end of June, managing director Catherine von Schoen told INSIDE: "Due to the developments on the energy market, we are in a very serious corporate crisis and are working with the utmost pressure to find a solution and save the location in Schweinfurt, as well as the jobs there."

Some of the deliveries to customers were allegedly stopped weeks ago. Breweries that have supply contracts with the malthouse are shocked as they now have to get their raw material on the spot market, which is almost impossible. If goods are available at all, then only at a multiple of the price of the supply contracts concluded a year ago.
