India: UBL secures land for major new brewery

United Breweries Limited (UBL), part of Heineken, has registered the lease for industrial land in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, marking a decisive step toward establishing a large greenfield brewery. The INR 750 crore (approx. USD 90 million) investment is intended to expand the company’s production network and reinforce its position in northern India. Capacity is planned between 1.0 and 2.0 million hectoliters, with operations scheduled to start in Q2 FY27. The new site will be equipped to produce both mainstream and premium brands, including Heineken, in cans and bottles.

The facility is expected to improve supply-chain efficiency for the region, allowing the company to respond more quickly to rising demand and to lower distribution distances into key northern markets. By installing both canning and bottling lines, the brewery will add flexibility at a time when packaging preferences continue shifting in India’s fast-developing beer segment.

According to information first highlighted by ScanX News, the greenfield project reflects UBL’s confidence in sustained category growth in Uttar Pradesh and surrounding states. It also underscores the strategic importance of expanding manufacturing infrastructure as part of the long-term India roadmap of the Bengaluru-based brewer, which markets brands including Kingfisher Strong, Kingfisher Premium, Kingfisher Ultra, Heineken Original, Heineken Silver and Amstel Grande.

The upcoming brewery is intended to produce mainstream and premium beers, with a clear emphasis on supporting future volume growth. The project will be closely watched, given its potential effects on UBL’s market share and overall competitiveness in one of India’s largest consumer regions.
