Spain: Molson Coors snaps craft brewer La Sagra

Shortly after AB InBev announced the purchase of craft brewer La Virgen from Madrid also U.S.-Canadian rival Molson Coors has invested in a craft brewery in Spain. Cervezas La Sagra from Numancia de la Sagra (Toledo) is the leading producer of artisanal beer in Spain and hopes to further increase production and sales with the financial help of a senior partner. Molson Coors does not only want to have a stronger foothold on the Iberian market but also intends to distribute its own artisanal white beer Blue Moon through the new alliance. The agreement includes an enlargement of the actual brewing site, as well as a national and international expansion of La Sagra.

Carlos García, who founded Cervezas La Sagra in 2011, sees for him and his company “a big step, which nobody would have dreamed of just a few years ago. It is a great news for artisanal beer in Spain, which helps us to strengthen the sector and to continue producing exceptional artisanal beers, taking into account the experience of Molson Coors, a brewing group which has never stopped being familial.”
