UK: Simpsons Malt Constructs New Peating Plant

Simpsons Malt has received approval from Northumberland County Council to construct a new peating plant at its Tweed Valley Maltings headquarters in Berwick, as reported by the Northumberland Gazette today.

This expansion will allow the fifth-generation family business to double its production capacity for peated malt, a key ingredient for distillers crafting peated whisky, reaching an annual output of 20,000 tons.

In addition to meeting increased demand, the project emphasizes the company's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. A notable component of the investment involves installing a CentriAir high scrubber and centrifuge system. This advanced technology is tailored to minimize both odor emissions and particulate matter, while enhancing the overall air quality.
