USA: Brewers Association Top 50 Reveals Market Reordering

The latest ranking of the Top 50 brewing companies in the United States reflects a market in gradual transition, with stability at the top but increasing movement across the broader competitive landscape. According to Brewers Association, AB InBev retained its leading position in 2025, followed by Molson Coors, Constellation Brands, Heineken USA, and Diageo, which moved ahead of Pabst Brewing Company compared to the previous year.

Among the leading U.S.-owned brewers, D.G. Yuengling and Son Inc. continued to hold a strong position, while Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. moved up one place to rank tenth, overtaking Boston Beer Company, which slipped to eleventh. The upward movement of Athletic Brewing Company, climbing from 18th to 15th place, further underlines the continued momentum of the non-alcoholic beer segment.

The 2025 ranking also highlights the emergence of new players. Garage Beer Co entered the Top 50 directly at position 22, signaling the growing dynamism of the market. At the same time, companies such as Tivoli Brewing Company and Fiddlehead Brewing strengthened their positions within the lower half of the ranking.

Changes in positioning among established brewers were more nuanced. Deschutes Brewery improved its ranking slightly, while Artisanal Brewing Ventures maintained a stable position year-on-year. In contrast, Rhinegeist Brewery moved down the list, whereas Allagash Brewing Company recorded a modest gain.

At the lower end of the ranking, structural shifts became evident. Pizza Port and Surly Brewing Company, both part of the 2024 Top 50 (inside.beer, 15.4.2025), dropped out in 2025, reflecting intensifying competition and ongoing consolidation within the sector. Meanwhile, the presence of groups such as Monster Brewing and Barrel One Collective continues to illustrate the role of aggregation strategies in shaping the U.S. craft beer landscape.

Overall, the comparison between 2024 and 2025 shows a market defined by resilience at the top and increasing competitive pressure in the mid and lower tiers. While global brewing groups maintain their dominance, shifting consumer preferences and evolving business models are steadily reshaping the structure of the U.S. beer industry.
