USA: Founders Brewing and Avery Brewing merge to become Mahou USA

Spanish brewer Mahou San Miguel is consolidating its American operations, Founders Brewing, Avery Brewing and Mahou Imports, onto a new platform, Mahou USA. The merge officially happens today and is the culmination of a business transition that started in 2014 when the Spanish beer market leader purchased 30 percent of Founders Brewing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Five year later, the stake was increased to 90% with only the two co-founders Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers retaining a 5 percent share each. (, 30.8.2019)

In addition to its investment in Founders, Mahou San Miguel acquired in November 2017 30 percent of Avery Brewing from Boulder, Colorado (, 28.11.2017) which it increased to 70 percent in April two years later. (, 2.4.2019)

“Founders and Avery have been working together cohesively for the past two years, and we have consistently found strength within this partnership of brands,” says Mahou USA CEO Elton Andres Knight. "Combining Founders and Avery with Mahou Imports into Mahou USA will enable us to compete on another level within the marketplace, which will bring a refreshing change as we move through 2023 and beyond.”
