USA: June beer shipments show a trend reversal

Domestic tax paid beer shipments in June were 4.4% higher than in the same month last year according to an unofficial estimate of the Beer Institute. While June-shipments last year amounted to 15,901,000 bbls (18.960.427 hl) the figure this year was 16,600,000 bbls (19.793.918 hl). This could mean a trend reversal after the COVID-19-related declines earlier this year.

The figures which are based on unofficial estimates of domestic tax paid shipments compiled by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) were all negative for the preceding months this year (between -0.1% in January and -6.6% in May, inside.beer, 25.6.2020). However, the numbers are fraught with great uncertainty because the Beer Institute is expecting significant revisions as TTB Industry Circular 2020-2 has postponed reporting requirements for filing and payment due dates for up to 90 days.
