AB InBev announced that the capacity of its Vietnamese brewery in the VSIP II-A Industrial Park in Binh Duong province has been doubled to 1 million hectoliters per year within the first ten years of operations. The announcement was made at the company's 10th anniversary celebration on May 21, 2025, underscoring the strategic growth of the site according to a report by The Investor.
The facility was opened in 2015 under the supervision of Michael Doukeris, now CEO of AB InBev and, at the time, Zone President Asia Pacific. It was the company’s first independently built brewery in Southeast Asia. The site focuses on premium international brands like Budweiser and Beck’s and supplies beer across the Southeast Asian region. It operates with a high level of automation and minimal manual labor.
In parallel, AB InBev operates a second brewery in the My Phuoc II Industrial Park in the same province. Originally opened by SABMiller in 2007 as a joint venture with Vietnamese dairy company Vinamilk, it was fully acquired by SABMiller in 2009. Following the 2016 global merger of AB InBev and SABMiller, the site was integrated into AB InBev Vietnam in 2021..
While this positions AB InBev as a serious player in Vietnam, it still trails far behind the country's two leading brewers. SABECO, controlled by Thai Beverage and recently strengthened through its acquisition of Sabibeco, now produces 30.1 million hl per year, while Heineken Vietnam follows closely at 27.8 million hl. Other breweries such as Habeco (8 million hl), Carlsberg (3.6 million hl), and Sapporo (1.5 million hl) continue to surpass AB InBev in scale (inside.beer, 29.12.2024).
Despite its smaller size, AB InBev Vietnam stands out through its commitment to sustainability. Since 2020, the VSIP II-A brewery has reduced water consumption by 54%, approaching the group’s goal of using less than 2 hl of water per hl of beer by the end of 2025. A solar power system, already operational, will double in capacity by the end of this year, complemented by an electric boiler and an advanced CO₂ recovery system.
Vietnam, one of the world’s top ten beer-consuming nations, continues to offer growth potential. AB InBev’s long-term investments in infrastructure and environmental innovation underscore its ambitions in the region.
