Czech Republic: Budweiser Budvar Defies Market Decline With Record Sales

Budweiser Budvar has reported a new all-time sales record, underlining its ability to grow against the broader market trend of declining beer consumption in both the Czech Republic and abroad. In 2025, the brewery sold 1.946 million hl of beer, marking a 1% increase year-on-year and the third consecutive annual rise (inside.beer, 16.1.2025).

According to a statement released on 2 February, sales expanded across both retail and the on-trade, including restaurants and hotels. On the domestic market, canned beer volumes surged by around 25%, while bottled beer sales remained stable. Total sales in the Czech Republic rose by 3%, with lager beers standing out at a growth rate of 17%.

Brewery director Petr Dvořák highlighted the strategic importance of the sustained growth, noting that Budvar continues to gain volume even as overall beer consumption declines in many markets. This, he said, reflects strong consumer confidence in the brand and in the quality of its beers.

Export performance also contributed to the positive result, particularly in draft and tank beer, which recorded higher volumes abroad. Beyond brewing, Budvar’s visitor centre in České Budějovice welcomed more than 50,000 guests during 2025, underlining the brewery’s growing relevance as a tourism destination.

Founded in 1895, Budvar remains fully owned by the Czech state and exports its beers to more than 70 countries worldwide, positioning the brewer as a rare example of profitable, state-owned growth in an otherwise contracting European beer market.
