The European Beer Star 2024 has unveiled its winners, celebrating exceptional brews from around the world in a festive ceremony at the BrauBeviale trade fair in Nuremberg. Recognized as one of the most prestigious beer competitions globally, this year’s event saw 2,360 entries from 50 countries competing for gold, silver, and bronze medals across 75 categories.
Global Winners Take Center Stage
The most successful brewery of 2024 is Firestone Walker Brewing Company from California, USA, which took home three gold and one silver medal. Germany's top-performing brewery, Brauerei S. Riegele from Augsburg, earned two gold and two silver medals, showcasing the nation’s enduring reputation in beer craftsmanship.
Smaller breweries also shined. Liechtenstein and Moldova each claimed a gold medal, while Ghana and Vietnam entered the competition for the first time, each winning a bronze medal.
Medal Table Highlights
Germany led the medal count with 71 awards, including 27 gold. The USA followed with 32 awards, while Italy secured 29 medals. Austria and the Netherlands rounded out the top five, further underlining the competition's international appeal.
Celebrating Innovation in Brewing
This year introduced new beer categories, including "German-Style Sour Beer" and "Baltic Porter." Notable victories included a gold medal for Austria’s Privatbrauerei Zwettl in the "German-Style Pilsner" category, and Spain’s La Cervesera Artesana impressed with its underwater-aged Imperial Oyster Stout, which won in the "Free-Style Beer" category.
Grolsch Brewery from the Netherlands took gold in the "Hefeweizen Hell" category, while German breweries dominated the "Kellerbier" and "Dunkel" categories.
