The European Beer Star 2025 celebrated its winners on September 17 during drinktec in Munich, followed by the traditional Winners’ Night where all award-winning beers were available for tasting. The competition, founded in 2004, has become one of the most prestigious global beer contests, with 2,202 beers submitted from more than 50 countries in 74 style categories this year. For the first time, two additional categories for beer mix beverages were introduced to reflect current consumer trends.
The winning beers came from 22 countries, underlining the global reach of the event. Germany topped the medal table with 71 awards, including 22 golds, followed by Italy with 37 medals and Austria with 14. The USA achieved 19 awards, while Poland collected 9, completing the top five. Even breweries from nations not traditionally associated with beer, such as Peru, India, and Thailand, were among the winners.
Among the most successful breweries, MC77 Birrificio Artigianale and 50&50 from Italy each claimed five medals. MC77 took gold for San Lorenzo, silver for Glu Glu and three bronzes, while 50&50 earned gold for SLO MO and OX&DONKEY, silver for KALOPSIA and two bronzes. Germany’s Hirsch-Brauerei Honer impressed with four gold medals across its wheat and radler styles.
Also with four awards, Private Landbrauerei Schönram (two gold, one silver, one bronze) stood out with Schönramer Pils and Original Schönramer Dunkel. Brazil’s Brewine Leopoldina matched that tally with three golds and a silver, while Poland’s Browar Trzech Kumpli and Austria’s Ottakringer Brauerei each won four medals in mixed categories.
Other notable triple medal winners include Camba Bavaria from Germany, Ukraine’s MOVA Brewing Company, Germany’s Gebr. Müller Müllerbräu, Belgium’s Brouwerij Boon, and Germany’s Schneider Weisse. Italy’s Bozner Weisse (Batzen) also earned two golds and a bronze.
With strong performances from Europe, the Americas, and Asia, the 2025 edition reaffirmed the European Beer Star as a global benchmark for authentic, consumer-focused beer styles and a showcase of international beer culture.
