India: AB InBev Announces USD 121 Million Brewery Project

At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, India’s Minister of Food Processing Industries  Chirag Paswan announced a major investment of USD 250 million over the next two to three years by Belgium-based AB InBev to strengthen India’s beverage sector. Part of this investment includes the establishment of a state-of-the-art brewery in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, with a project value of INR 1,000 crore (approximately USD 121 million).

The brewery in Unnao represents a significant step for AB InBev to expand its footprint in the fast-growing Indian beer market. This facility will create numerous local job opportunities and support Uttar Pradesh’s industrial growth strategy. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government, which has been actively fostering global investments through business-friendly policies.

Paswan emphasized India’s openness to international partnerships and highlighted AB InBev’s investment as a testament to the country’s appeal as a global manufacturing hub. This initiative aligns with India’s broader focus on industrial diversification, following other high-profile investments such as the JSW Group’s INR 3,00,000 crore ($36.3 billion) commitment in Maharashtra.

The new brewery will serve as a cornerstone for AB InBev’s operations in India, catering to the growing demand for beer while positioning Uttar Pradesh as a critical player in the beverage industry. Alongside this, AB InBev plans to enhance production and innovation across India, with a focus on states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and South Indian regions.

Paswan, reflecting on the significance of the WEF, underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of India as a global manufacturing and investment hub. He noted the role of international collaborations, such as AB InBev’s investment, in advancing the country’s economic development.
