Suntory Holdings has denied being in talks to purchase Boston Beer Co., according to a spokesperson's statement to Bloomberg on Saturday. This clarification follows a significant 22% surge in Boston Beer shares on Friday after a Wall Street Journal report suggested that the maker of Samuel Adams beer was in early discussions to be sold to Suntory, the owner of Jim Beam. The report also noted that these talks might not lead to a deal, and other potential buyers could emerge.
Boston Beer responded on Friday by stating that it does not comment on rumors and remains focused on its business as an independent company and its return to growth.
The Wall Street Journal's report followed speculation from Betaville last month, indicating that Boston Beer had attracted takeover interest. There were suggestions that Heineken or Molson Coors might be potential suitors for the company.
Rumors about the sale of Boston Beer are not new. In 2017, Bloomberg reported that the second-largest craft brewery in the United States was at the center of similar takeover speculations.(inside.beer, 27.9.2017)
