The winners of the annual World Beer Cup, one of the biggest and most prestigious beer competitions in the world, were awarded this year on April 24, 2024, on the final day of the Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America at the Venetian Convention and Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The competition fell short of previous years' figures, once again underscoring the challenging situation faced by craft breweries in the USA. This year's awards featured 2,060 breweries submitting 9,300 beers across 110 categories. A panel of 280 judges from 37 countries evaluated the diverse array of brews.
The number of beers submitted for competition decreased by 8.9% compared to the previous year, and the number of participating breweries even dropped by 13.3%. The industry's weakness becomes even more apparent when considering the continuous decline in participating breweries over the last 6 years. At the last competition before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2018, the highest number of participating breweries, 2,515, was recorded. Since then, the number of participating breweries has steadily decreased and is now 18% lower than in the record year of 2018.
