Germany: Brauhaus Riegele with most popular beer at European Beer Star

The winners of this year’s European Beer Star competition in which a new record number of 2,483 beers competed against each other (inside.beer, 6.11.2019) are now set.

Winner of the Consumers' Favourite 2019 award in gold and therefore the best beer of the show is Augustus 8, a beer from Brauhaus Riegele in Augsburg, Germany. The beer was gold medal winner in the category South German-Style Weizenbock Dunkel and competed with all other gold medallists in 67 categories for the popular title.

Visitors of BrauBeviale 2019 in Nuremberg, Germany, this year’s most important capital goods exhibition for the beverage industry, had the chance to choose their favorite beer on the opening day of the fair on Tuesday and picked this beer. According to the makers, “Augustus 8 owes its fruity flavor and 8 percent alcohol content to the Riegele 2-mash brewing process, with a mixture of unique fermented yeast, Pilsner wheat, and Munich malts.”

Consumers' Favourite 2019 in silver was awarded to Selva Sour from Birra dell‘Eremo, Italy and Consumers' Favourite 2019 in bronze went to Averbode Abdijbier from Brouwerij L Huyghe, Belgium.

Dr. Sebastian Priller-Riegele, Senior Partner at Brauhaus Riegele, who has already passed on the reins of the brewery in the 28th generation to his son, received the prize at the Winner’s Night on Wednesday in Nuremberg , together with his brewmaster Frank Müller.

"We are really proud to have received 39 European Beer Star Awards since 2004! And the victory in the 'Consumers Favorite' competition shows us that our beers can also stand a blind tasting with beer connoisseurs, which is actually the even greater honor! "said Priller-Riegele.
