Romania: Heineken to close Constanța brewery

Heineken Romaniaannounced today on its local website to cease production of its Constanța brewery approximately in September 2023. The company plans to transfer the production and packaging capacities to the other three Heineken factories, in Craiova, Miercurea Ciuc and Ungheni. The Constanța brewery was founded in 1970 and has been part of the Heineken Group since 2003.

According to the statement, the brewery in Constanta has been operating well below capacity for several years. “It is necessary to have the most efficient manufacturing footprint to ensure growth and further investment in the long term,” says Heineken. As a consequence, the company said “to invest significantly in the three remaining factories to support our ambition for growth and sustainable development, maintaining a strong presence in the Romanian market and in the communities where we operate.”

Heineken Romania currently employs over 1,100 people in 4 factories. The company had a net profit of RON 118.8 million (USD 23.6 million) in 2021, as was published by the finance ministry.
