Senegal: Spanish Brewer Damm Opens First African Production Facility

Damm is accelerating its international growth strategy with the opening of its first production facility in Africa. Located in Dakar, Senegal, the new soft drinks manufacturing site is designed to supply customers across Senegal and neighboring West African markets, marking a significant step in the company's efforts to build a more localized and agile production network.

With this latest development, international operations now account for approximately 30% of the company's total business. The expansion into Africa follows a period of targeted infrastructure investment. In the United Kingdom, Damm has invested more than EUR 80 million (GBP 70 million) in Damm Eagle Brewery in Bedford over recent years. The investment has increased production capacity, added new manufacturing lines, and expanded the brewery's capabilities in the alcohol-free beer and soft drinks categories (inside.beer, 20.10.2025).

The company has also strengthened its market position through strategic portfolio diversification. In late 2024, Damm signed an agreement with Nestlé to manufacture, market, and distribute the iced tea brand Nestea across Spain, Andorra, Gibraltar, and Portugal (inside.beer, 11.12.2024). The partnership has reinforced the brewer's position in the non-carbonated soft drinks segment. In addition, the company recently agreed to acquire the Old Speckled Hen ale brand family from Greene King, with the transaction expected to be completed on July 1, 2026 (inside.beer, 19.5.2026).

According to The Drinks Business, citing GlobalData, the flagship brand Estrella Damm currently ranks as the world's tenth-largest lager brand by sales value. The company reports that its products are available in more than 130 countries, while its proprietary brands are exported to 88 markets.

The investments in Senegal and the United Kingdom reflect Damm's strategy of producing closer to end consumers while simultaneously broadening its portfolio beyond beer through alcohol-free beverages and soft drinks. By regionalizing production and expanding into adjacent beverage categories, the company aims to strengthen its international competitiveness and respond more effectively to evolving consumer demand.
