USA: Boston Beer to exit Los Angeles operations

The Boston Beer Company has announced it will wind down its Los Angeles operations, including the Truly LA taproom and Angel City Brewery, as part of a strategic refocus on its core national brands such as Samuel Adams. Operations at Truly LA will be reduced to Friday and Saturday service by the end of 2025, with the venue repurposed for overflow and rental use thereafter.

While Angel City Brewery has been performing well, Boston Beer stated the brand “no longer lines up with our long-term growth strategy.” The company will not renew the brewery’s lease, which expires in April 2026, and is actively seeking a buyer so the brand can continue independently. Should a sale not occur, the brewery will close next year.

Boston Beer plans to transfer as many Truly LA employees as possible to Angel City for the remainder of the lease term. The Los Angeles-based Angel City Brewery, opened in 2013, has become a fixture in the Arts District for its craft beers and community events. Earlier this month, CEO Michael Spillane announced he would step down to address personal matters (inside.beer, 2.8.2025).
