Spain: Mahou San Miguel launches Refeel energy drink

Spain’s Mahou San Miguel is expanding its portfolio beyond beer with the launch of Refeel, its first energy drink. Scheduled to hit the Spanish market in September, the mango and pineapple-flavoured beverage is made entirely from natural ingredients, contains plant-based caffeine, and has fewer than 20 calories per 10cl. It will be sold in cans through supermarkets, home-delivery platforms, and Mahou San Miguel’s own stores.

According to the company, the move targets one of the fastest-growing beverage categories in Spain and abroad, aiming to meet rising demand for healthier, low-calorie alternatives. Miguel Ángel Cabrero, Innovation Director, described Refeel as a “unique energy drink” that reflects the brewer’s strategy to diversify its offerings in line with evolving consumer trends.

The launch follows more than USD 137 million (EUR 126 million) in investments over the past five years to develop new products, services, and business models, with diversification as a key growth driver. Earlier this year, Mahou San Miguel introduced Los Cachis, a line of wine-based mixed drinks including sangria, tinto de verano, kalimotxo, and rebujito . The company also completed full ownership of US-based Founders Brewing in March 2025 and owns a majority stake in Avery Brewing. Both companies merged in 2023 to become Mahou USA (inside.beer, 12.1.2023).
